Browser

Browser

A browser is what people use to search for different websites. A browser uses http(Hypertext Tranfer Protocol) to search the user's request on the browser.

Device

Devices

A device is an electronic or mechanical invention used for the purpose that it was built for. A device is what a user interacts with to be able to interact with a piece of information. Devices come in many shapes and sizes, colours and brands.

ISP

ISP

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. An ISP is a company that provides individuals and other companies access to the Internet and other related services such as Web site building and other stuff.

Webpage

A webpage is a document that is suitable for the World Wide Web and web browsers, anyone can see these images sites and videos. Webpage's are very different to each other by the verying information, looks and code.

World Wide Web

World Wide Web

The Web gives users access to a vast array of documents that are connected to each other by means of hypertext, A hypertext document with its corresponding text and hyperlinks is written in HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and is assigned an online address called a Uniform Resource Locator (URL). If you want to go somewhere on the internet you are telling an ISP the URL of where you want to go, thhen they will search the World Wide WEb to find it.

Modem

Modem

A modem is a device or program that enables a computer to transmit data over, for example, telephone or cable lines. Computer information is stored digitally, whereas information transmitted over telephone lines is transmitted in the form of analog waves. A modem converts between these two forms.

Network

Network

A network consists of two or more computers that are linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CDs), exchange files, or allow electronic communications. The computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites, or infrared light beams. Three networks are Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) and Radio Area Network(RAN)

Webserver

Webserver

A Web server is a program that uses HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) to send the files that form Web pages to users. The process is an example of the client/server model. All computers that host Web sites must have Web server programs. Online video games need servers to connect all of the players at one place, if the server/server's go down then no one will be able to use them because there is no where for the console to get its information.

Fiber Optic Cables

Fiber Optic Cables

A fiber optic cable is a network cable that contains strands of glass fibers inside an insulated casing. They're designed for long distance, very high performance data networking and telecommunications.Compared to wired cables, fiber optic cables provide higher bandwidth and can transmit data over longer distances.Fiber optic cables support much of the world's internet, cable television and telephone systems. New zealand is mainly fibre optic now whereas for year NZ and the whole world have been using copper cables.

Webhosting

Webhosting

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. an example of a webhost is http://www.xtreemhost.com/

Packets

Packets

Packets are what is used to transfer data on the internet, Some internet files will be massive so what happens is they will be split up into hundreds of different parts and sent different ways to eventually end up at your computer, joining up and making what you see before your eyes, But if one of the packets gets lost it will send them all back and resend them and that is how errors happen.

Router

Router

A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. Routers perform the traffic directing functions on the Internet. A data packet is typically forwarded from one router to another router through the networks that constitute the internetwork until it reaches its destination

LANS

LANS

A local area network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated devices that share a common communications line or wireless link to a server. Typically, a LAN includes computers and devices connected to a server within a distinct geographic area such as an office or a school.

WANS

WANS

A wide area network (WAN) is a telecommunications network or computer network that extends over a large distance. Wide area networks are often established with leased telecommunication circuits.WANS are basically LANS except on a much larger scale.

RANS

RANS

A radio access network (RAN) is part of a mobile telecommunication system. It implements a radio access technology.it resides between a device such as a mobile phone, a computer, or any remotely controlled machine and provides connection with its core network
